Whether it’s a beach vacation, a city trip, or a spontaneous getaway across the border – with your Carvolution car, you’re free to go. It’s not only your reliable companion in Switzerland but also supports you abroad – just like your own car. To make sure you can fully enjoy your trip, here’s what you should keep in mind when driving abroad.

Which countries can I travel to?

Your car is insured exclusively in Europe and in all countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea – therefore, you may only drive in these countries.
Exceptions: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.

Important: Abroad, your car may only be driven by you or by people residing in Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Which documents and equipment do I need?

To travel abroad worry-free, you should always have the most important documents and the required equipment with you.

Documents:

  • Driving licence & car registration certificate – mandatory in every country.

  • Proof of insurance – no longer required in the EU, but still accepted everywhere and very useful. You can order this from us free of charge.

Equipment:

  • Mandatory in all neighboring countries of Switzerland: CH sticker, warning triangle, and European accident report form.

  • Additional items depending on the country: e.g., high-visibility vests, first-aid kit, or spare bulbs.

👉 Always check the requirements of your destination country before your trip.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, make sure to check the key regulations of your destination country in advance.

  • Traffic rules: Each country has its own regulations, such as speed limits, alcohol limits, or overtaking restrictions. Stay informed beforehand so you can always drive safely and legally.

  • Winter tyre requirements: There is no general obligation in Switzerland, but in countries like Italy, driving without winter tyres in winter can lead to fines or even car impoundment.

Toll systems & vignettes

  • Switzerland & Austria: Motorways require a vignette.

  • Slovenia & Czech Republic: Vignette required.

  • Italy & France: Distance-based toll systems with payment at toll booths.

👉 This list is not complete – every country has its own rules. It’s best to quickly check what applies in your destination country before you set off.

Practical tips for a relaxed trip

In addition to legal requirements, these tips help make your journey even smoother:

  • 24h CarAssistance: With Mobiliar, you’re covered throughout Europe. In an emergency, you can reach the assistance service at +41 62 919 11 11. Don’t forget to also note the local emergency numbers (e.g., police or ambulance) of your destination country.

  • Flexible kilometres: If you drive more than expected, you can easily adjust your kilometre package anytime in the Carvolution app.

  • For electric cars: Plan your route based on charging infrastructure and bring along the right apps or charging cards to stay flexible on the go.
