Andreas has left behind traditional car buying and leasing and now relies on a car subscription – and for good reason. He’s had enough of constant paperwork, hidden costs, and the hassle that comes with owning a car. Instead, he pays a fixed monthly price and lets the provider take care of the rest – including insurance, service, and tire changes. In this interview, he reveals what’s really behind the hype around car subscriptions.

Andreas, what kind of car are you driving?

I went with a Ford Focus ST-Line station wagon from Carvolution – mainly for the family. It looks sporty but has a lot of space. A real space-saver, especially when we’re traveling with four people or a lot of luggage.

Why did you choose a subscription instead of buying or leasing?

Primarily because of the value for money. A friend of mine had an electric car from Carvolution – at an impressively fair price. I then took my time to crunch the numbers: buying, leasing, and subscribing. Plus all the hassle with insurance, service, tire storage – all of that goes away with a subscription. It was the combination of low overall costs, minimal effort, and real simplicity that won me over.

Did you have any concerns about trying a car subscription?

Of course, concerns are natural. I used to always buy my cars. Back then, I could just drive without thinking. Now I do have to watch the mileage – there’s obviously a limit compared to owning a car. But Carvolution takes care of so many other things, which makes up for it.

Do people underestimate the time and costs involved?

Definitely. When I talk to friends, I often ask: “Do you know how much time and money you really spend on your car?” There's insurance comparisons, buying and storing tires, garage appointments, admin costs… it all adds up. When I tell them I just pay a fixed monthly fee that covers everything, many are surprised – and interested.

Do you often have these kinds of conversations in your circle?

Three more people in my close circle now drive a Carvolution car – they know what’s good (laughs). But of course, there are skeptics too, especially among leasing fans. I have some pretty interesting debates with them – and I like to break down the benefits for them.

Carvolution advertises a best-price guarantee. Were you aware of that?

Honestly: no. But that just confirms my impression – and my research at the time – that the monthly price is absolutely fair. I even enjoy paying it. No joke – I actually send the payment with a smile. Leasing would only be an option if there were a very specific model that Carvolution doesn’t offer.

Aside from the low overall cost, what else is important to you about the subscription?

The flexible mileage package! I’m on the road a lot. Sometimes I hardly drive at all, other times we visit my parents in Germany – that’s 1,400 kilometers in just a few days. I track my mileage through the app and adjust the package accordingly: more when I drive more – less when I stay home. That way, I never overpay.

You’ve also had an accident. How was that experience?

In the past, an accident meant a lot of stress: dealing with the insurance, the garage, getting a replacement car – all on your own. With Carvolution, it was the exact opposite. I reported the damage via the app, and everything was taken care of from there. I even got the same replacement car and mine came back in top condition. Since then, accidents don’t really bother me anymore.

What’s your message to people who are looking for a new car soon?

Simple: run the numbers – you’ll be surprised. And don’t just think about the price, think about your time. A subscription saves you so many small and big headaches. It’s crazy.

Any suggestions for improvement today?

Maybe expand the brand selection a bit – especially from the Asian market. And some more budget-friendly models would be interesting. But overall: I’m really satisfied.
