Buying a new car without knowing how it really feels in everyday life? For Lucia, that was not an option. Switching to an electric vehicle came with a lot of question marks—especially regarding costs, everyday practicality, and model choice. What started as an introduction turned into a fixed daily routine over three years. In this interview, Lucia shares her experience with the car subscription model—and why she ended up buying her car after all.

Lucia, why was buying a car out of the question for you at the time?

Lucia: I really wanted to drive electric, but I was unsure which model would actually suit our daily routine. Since we already have a large family car, we were looking for a compact second car for daily errands, short distances, and city driving. The subscription was perfect for trying out e-mobility easily and without any financial risk.

How did you originally find out about Carvolution?

Lucia: A good friend put me onto it. We were talking about electric cars and philosophizing about which model made the most sense. That's when the keyword "Carvolution" came up. Before that, I didn't know anyone in my circle who had any personal experience with a car subscription.

Did you do a total cost calculation before you started?

Lucia: I didn't do a complex calculation, but I did figure out how much a car costs per year. Lucia: That was a shame, of course, but things still went brilliantly. When the delivery of the Peugeot e-208 was delayed by two to three months, Carvolution easily provided me with a Ford Puma as a temporary solution. That was absolutely great for bridging the gap, even though it was a petrol car.

During this phase, the Peugeot was unfortunately canceled completely, and I had to look for another car. Fortunately, I quickly found another great model at Carvolution.

Is that how the decision for the Fiat 500e came about?

Lucia: Yes, absolutely. At first, I was a bit unsure because the Fiat only has three doors and my kids have to climb into the back. But when I looked at the car more closely, I quickly thought: This actually fits our daily life perfectly. The swap itself was totally uncomplicated. I just drove to Bannwil, dropped off the Ford Puma, and was able to take the Fiat right with me without any hurdles.

Were you afraid of financial surprises when returning the Ford Puma?

Lucia: No, not at all. I had briefly asked beforehand how normal wear and tear is assessed at Carvolution, but the return on-site was completely relaxed. I parked the car, and the employee immediately explained the new car to me. The entire process and assessment were absolutely fair.

Have you had any problems with the car subscription since then?

Lucia: No, overall not at all. Only a non-fault accident was a bit of a specific moment, but even that went surprisingly smoothly. Reporting the damage via the Carvolution-app was very quick, and the support team was there immediately.

And how did the process go after the accident specifically—did you have to pay anything?

Lucia: The insurance company initially wanted to claim the 500 franc deductible, noting that I would get it back later. I then coordinated directly with the other party's insurance. Since the question of fault was clear, it was settled immediately and I didn't have to advance a single cent. Everything happened in the background without much effort on my part.

After three years, you have now bought your car. How did that come about?

Lucia: That was actually more of a unique situation. Basically, I was super happy with the Carvolution subscription and really had no reason to switch. But then the opportunity arose to buy a car cheaply from acquaintances. That seemed exciting to me in the short term.

However, that car unfortunately broke down before it could truly become an alternative. As a result, I was suddenly faced with a choice: either extend the subscription again or buy the Fiat directly through the Carvolution Outlet.

And why ultimately a purchase instead of a subscription?

Lucia: I looked at it closely and crunched the numbers. Since the subscription ends after a certain period of time anyway and I would have had to choose a new vehicle with new conditions, a new subscription would have been more expensive overall than taking over the Fiat from Carvolution and driving it for a few more years. That's why buying it was the most sensible and easiest solution in the end.

Looking back, what is the biggest advantage of buying your subscription car directly?

Lucia: You are absolutely not buying a pig in a poke! When you've driven a car yourself for three years, you know every single screw and its exact condition. I never had any problems the entire time, never had to go to the workshop for unscheduled repairs, and knew exactly that every service was always carried out professionally. You don't get that kind of trust with any normal used car purchase.

And how did the actual buying process go? Was there a lot of bureaucracy involved in the switch?

Lucia: Not at all, it was extremely straightforward. I took a photo of the mileage and sent it to Carvolution, then received the purchase contract digitally, made the payment, and shortly afterwards the confirmations arrived. With that, the switch from subscription user to owner was done quickly and hassle-free.

Would you go down exactly the same path again today?

Lucia: Yes, to be honest, I had a very good experience the whole time. The Carvolution subscription worked perfectly for my daily routine and took a lot of paperwork off my hands. Everything went very smoothly and was well organized.
