When was the last time you checked your tyre pressure? If you're not sure – don't worry, you're not alone. Many people underestimate how important tyre pressure is. Yet it affects your safety, comfort, and even fuel consumption.

In this article, you'll learn why tyre pressure matters, how to check it, and what it means for your car subscription with Carvolution.

Why Is the Right Tyre Pressure So Important?

Whether it’s too low or too high – the wrong tyre pressure can cause issues:

  • 🚨 Safety: Your braking distance increases, and your car becomes less stable in corners or on wet roads.

  • ⛽⚡️ Fuel Consumption: Low pressure increases rolling resistance – which means higher fuel or energy use.

  • 🛞 Tyre Wear: Tyres wear out faster and unevenly. That’s not just annoying – it also costs money.

What Is the Optimal Tyre Pressure?

There’s no one-size-fits-all value – the optimal pressure depends on several factors:

  • Your car model

  • How much the car is loaded (more people or luggage = more pressure needed)

  • The type and size of tyres

You’ll find the recommended pressure:

  • On a sticker inside the driver’s door frame

  • On the fuel cap

  • In the owner’s manual

  • And in many modern cars – right on the dashboard or screen

Typical pressure ranges from 2.0 to 2.5 bar, but front and rear tyres may require different values.

Note for Carvolution drivers: Tyres are included in your subscription – but it’s still a good idea to check your pressure now and then. During seasonal tyre changes, we’ll always make sure the pressure is correct.

How Do You Check Tyre Pressure – and Where?

It’s best to check the pressure when the tyres are still cold – ideally before a longer drive.

Short trips (e.g. to a petrol station or garage) are fine. Just don’t measure right after driving for a long time.

You can check your tyre pressure:

  • At a petrol station

  • At a garage or service centre

  • With your own pressure gauge or air compressor at home

🛠️ How to Check It – Step by Step:

  1. Find the recommended pressure for your car

  2. Unscrew the valve cap on the tyre

  3. Attach the gauge or air hose to the valve

  4. Read the pressure value

  5. Add or release air as needed

  6. Screw the valve cap back on

Tyre Pressure Sensors in Modern Cars

Many newer cars – including those from Carvolution – are equipped with tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). These systems show tyre pressure in the dashboard or trigger a warning light if something is wrong.

Important: These sensors usually only react to major pressure drops – they help, but don’t replace regular manual checks.

How Do You Know If You Have Too Much or Too Little Pressure?

You’ll often notice it just by how your car feels:

🔻 Too little pressure:

  • The car feels soft or unstable

  • Fuel consumption increases

  • Outer tyre edges wear down faster

🔺 Too much pressure:

  • The ride feels stiffer

  • Less grip on the road

  • Tyres wear out faster in the centre

Extra tip: Tyre pressure can drop in cold weather. Especially in winter, it’s worth checking regularly – for example, when seasons change.

What Does This Mean in a Car Subscription with Carvolution?

With Carvolution, tyre changes, storage and replacements are all included – no extra work for you. However, checking tyre pressure – like refuelling or charging – is still your responsibility. It's a small check with a big impact on safety and efficiency.

Conclusion: A Small Check That Makes a Big Difference

The right tyre pressure improves safety, reduces fuel use, and extends the life of your tyres. A quick check once a month – especially before long trips – is enough.
